Cyclists in Boston have a new weapon in their arsenal against bike thieves – Twitter.

The Stolen Bike Alert programme, run by City of Boston department Boston Bikes, sends an alert to police, local bike shops, hospitals, schools and subscribers when a stolen bike is reported. The alerts are sent via Twitter, Facebook or email, instantly raising awareness of the stolen bike.

Reporting bike crime is also made simple by the Stolen Bike Alert programme, according to this report from the Boston Herald.

Twitter has become something of a phenomenon in many walks of life, including the bike industry. We've got a list of industry names using Twitter - now totalling in excess of 700 names.
