This was the third annual staging of the CTC’s Phil and Friends Ride. 550 riders turned up, including a contingent from IBD JE James of Sheffield.
Isla Rowntree, a bike and products speccer for Halfords, rode with 1950s Tour de France multiple stage winner Brian Robinson. And hanging on to the select bunch of ‘Phil’s friends’ were BikeBiz.com editor Carlton Reid and author Graham Fife.
The CTC president and TdF commentator was riding his project one Trek and was testing one of the Fizik WingFlex saddles which Selle Royal had supplied him with at the Tour.
He told BikeBiz.com the saddle was comfortable, although the tough 56-mile route through the Peak District was his first ride since the end of the Tour.
