Extra hour given to get tickets; total numbers of ticket applications to follow

London 2012 ticket deadline extended following site crash

London 2012’s ticketing site crashed yesterday as sports fans rushed to beat the ticket application deadline.

According to reports, the site went down an hour before the 23.59 deadline yesterday (Tuesday April 26th) following slow downs throughout the evening as the site struggled to cope with the huge demand. The London 2012 organising committee subsequently extended the deadline by one hour – to 1am this morning.

The site placed a holding message when the site crashed, reading: "We’re experiencing high demand. You will be automatically directed to the page requested as soon as it becomes available. Thank you for your patience."

The total number of ticket requests has not yet been revealed and those who have applied will find out if they’ve been successful by June 24th.
