Akram Sheikh, president of the All Pakistan Cycle and Cycle Parts Manufacturers Association [APCCPMA], said on Saturday that illegal imports of Chinese bicycles at dumping prices is "a matter of concern." This is a concern shared by COLIBI, the European bicycle manufacturer's association, which will apply for the renewal of anti-dumping duties against complete Chinese bicycles. The current duties come up for review in July 2005.

Low-priced Chinese bicycles have captured 25% of Pakistan bike market

Pakistani bicycle manufacturers have asked the Pakistan government to take immediate steps to safeguard the indigenous bicycle industry, said a report from Asia Pulse, the Australia-based news agency.

Akram Sheikh said that Chinese bicycles have affected the local bicycle industry, as production of bicycles has declined, posing a threat to the jobs of thousands of workers, as well as a revenue loss to the government.
