Almost a million Brits will consider shoplifting Christmas presents

Merry shoplifting season

Almost one million Brits will consider shoplifting goods this Christmas, according to a new study conducted by G4S Security Services.

Although shoppers are said to be out in force now, the theft statistic is made worse by difficult financial times. The survey revealed that 2.6 million adults in the UK aged 16 to 64 admitted to shoplifting something in the past 12 months. That’s costing the economy an estimated £783 million this year.

The research also suggests that job losses could contribute to the figures. The report says that 1.6 million adults would cnsider shoplifting if they were to lose their jobs. Among 16 to 24 year olds one in ten claimed they would steal goods.
