Met Helmetshas announced a partnership with qhubeka.org, who provide economic opportunities to South Africans through the gift of sustainable bicycle transportation in partnership with the World Bicycle Relief organization.
Qhubeka is dedicated to the development of clean transportation for students, workers and more, expanding their ability to contribute to their own betterment, and the future of Africa.
MET Rivale and MET Manta were designed for Team Dimension Data to wear in competition at the 2016 Tour de France, as they take on the Qhubeka 5000 Challenge.
Douglas Ryder, Team Principal, said: "Starting the Tour de France in less than a weeks time means a lot to us. It is another stepping stone in our team’s history. Not only will we be the first ever African UCI WorldTour team to do so, we will also race to raise awareness for our #BicyclesChangeLives campaign to help mobilizing people through bikes in rural Africa.
"It is our goal to distribute a minimum of 5000 bikes this year to make an impact that matters. Through the Qhubeka 5000 challenge fans and supporters around the world can join us doing so by simply signing up for it at qhubeka5000.org. It makes us extremely happy that MET created this special helmet in support of this mission."
During stages 13 and 14 of the race, the team will invite fans to join them in raising funds for school children, workers and more in Africa by registering to ride their own route wherever they are. Profits from registration go directly toward providing bicycles for those who work and earn them through the programs supported by Qhubeka, and one registrant has the opportunity of being randomly chosen to join Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka’s team training camp in Cape Town, South Africa this November.
