This week Welsh Environment Minister John Griffiths started his 285 mile cycle trip across Wales.
He began the bike ride at Holyhead on Sunday April 1st and on Monday cycled to Coed Y Brenin, known for its mountain bike trails and one of Forestry Commission Wales’ premier recreation sites. Coed Y Brenin includes a visitor centre, café, cycle shop and bike hire facilities as well as an all-ability play area and a trail leading to a riverside picnic site.
Coed Y Brenin’s facilities have been developed with the help of several million pounds worth of Welsh Government and WEFO funding.
“I am delighted to be undertaking this 285 mile bike ride from Holyhead to Cardiff," said the Minister. "It is great to have the opportunity to cycle through Wales’ stunning countryside and to experience world class cycle facilities such as the ones here in Coed Y Brenin.
“I know that many cyclists visit Wales specifically for our cycling trails, paths and facilities and looking around Coed Y Brenin, and its spectacular views it is easy to see why. Indeed last year alone Coed Y Brenin attracted an impressive 150,000 visitors to the area which is great news for the local economy.
“Some of the trails here are not for the faint of heart but I would encourage anyone to cycle. It really is a great way of keeping fit, and a great way of enjoying Wales’ unique coast and countryside, particularly over the Easter break.”
