Pitango Bikes start from £375

New fixie brand offers alternative to ‘clunky cycles in murky colours’

Pitango Bikes is officially launching this summer with a line of bespoke bikes for men and women.

We say ‘officially’ because Pitango is already available in 35 UK shops, according to the brand.

Three young London-based entrepreneurs and ‘fixie’ fans are behind Pitango, which pledges to offer "an alternative to clunky cycles in murky colours". The steel frames are available in Pantone shades, from racing green and pillar box red to canary yellow and powder blue.

Customers can pick their own colour combinations and design features. Prices start from £375, with a four to five day delivery time.

Pitango’s first offering comes with a high quality steel frame that’s either a classic road bike or step-through Dutch style in rainbow shades. Customers choose their handlebar style and their colour combo for the bike’s tyres, rims, wheels, chainset, seat and bar tape. The build is streamlined but sturdy with Chromo steel lugged forks and thick 28mm tyres for a balanced and comfortable ride, plus a choice of one or three gears.

According to Pitango: "The brain-child of Oriya, Simon and Ilan, three young entrepreneurs from Israel and London, the idea for Pitango was born after former carpenter Ilan got his first fixie bike in London and soon got bored of seeing the same designs and colours over the city. Launching first in the bustling, cycle-focused metropolis of Tel Aviv, Pitango then grew from Simon’s mum’s garage in North London and the brand is now launching its first shop in the capital."
