Recyclebank and Transport for London have teamed up for a new initiative to reduce pollution in the capital, reports the BBC.
The free-to-join scheme will see journeys made by bicycle or on foot rewarded with ‘points’ that can then be used on offers or discounts. Journeys will be recorded using smartphone technology.
The scheme will launch in the spring and will be in testing from the end of this year.
TfL’s Ben Plowden said: "Walking and cycling are the healthiest and greenest ways to travel and already on the increase in the capital but we want to encourage even more people to take it up and consider it for their everyday journeys."
Recyclebank is urging local and national business to get behind the scheme, saying the involvement of new brand and retail reward partners is central to the scheme’s success.
Rob Crumbie, director of marketing and communications at Recyclebank, added: “We’re absolutely delighted to be supported by TfL on this project. It has the potential to be a huge initiative which will complement the excellent work TfL has been doing to encourage more people to cycle and walk in London. We are confident our plans for transport will result in even more people cycling and walking. Central to this success will be the successful recruitment of new brand and retail reward partners to the scheme, so we want to hear from both local and national businesses who are interested.”
Last month TfL created a new video to back the Barclays Cycle Hire scheme.
