Bike sales up 20 per cent

ACT’s latest poll reports good news for the cycle trade despite testing economic climate
Publish date:

The ACTs latest retail poll has revealed an increase in sales of 20 per cent for over half of the bike dealers surveyed, compared like-for-like with 2008, despite the UK being in recession.

The report found that overall like-for-like sales grew 19.4 per cent in April, while cumulative underlying sales were up 9.9 per cent year-on-year in the specialist sector.

Of the retailers outside the 51 per cent that recorded a sales rise of over 20 per cent, 12 per cent were up 10 to 20 per cent compared with April 2008, while 10 per cent up 1 to 10 per cent compared with April 2008.

Eight per cent saw sales down between 1 and 10 per cent, nine per cent reported a sales drop of 10 to 20 per cent with the remaining 10 per cent down over 20 per cent.

ACT urged retailers to pass on price increases to continue to protect gross margins.
