BikeBiz executive editor seeks his stolen bikes

BikeBiz executive editor Carlton Reid owns quite a few bikes. He’s now down by four because his family garage was broken into yesterday with thieves helping themselves to two mountain bikes and two carbon road bikes.

"I’ve now beefed up the security in the garage," said Reid. "But it’s gut-wrenching to think somebody will probably strip these bikes for parts and ditch the frames. I’m also annoyed that I left tools and micro pumps on the road bikes. They were nicked, too."

One of the bikes stolen – a 2009 Giant TCR carbon road bike – is equipped with a distinctive DuraAce seatpost. This is fused into the frame and cannot be removed. It has deep scuff marks where it has been clamped in a workshop to try and loosen it. The rest of the bike is equipped with Ultregra equipment.

A 2012 Giant Defy Advanced 1 is equipped with a DuraAce groupset, including a relatively unusual triple chainset.

The mountain bikes stolen are less distinctive: a Cannondale Trail SL hardtail and a 14-inch Kona Nunu.

If anybody is offered these bikes, or sees them on Gumtree, Craiglist or eBay, Carlton Reid would like to be informed. He can be emailed on carltonreid@mac.com
