Cycles UK creates awards for cycle cafés

Independent retailer Cycles UK is celebrating the best cycling cafes (and cafes used by cyclists) in its local area of Essex.

Cycles UK shop staff created a list of its favourite local cafes, which it then put out to a public vote on the Cycles UK Facebook page.

The team has now confirmed that Owl Hill Tea Rooms in Terling were the breakaway winner of its 2018 Best Cycling Café in Essex award.

The rest of the top ten cafes were:

1. Owl’s Hill Tea Room

2. The Blue Egg

3. Hall and Co

4. Norton Heath Cafe

5 Snug Cafe

6. The Lock

7. Blackmore Tea Rooms

8. The Bake House

9. Paper Mill Lock Tea-rooms

10. Bicicletta Coffee con Velo

The Owl Hill Tea Rooms commented: “We are so happy to have been voted Best Cycling Cafe in Essex. When we set up our tearoom three years ago, we wanted to ensure we supported cyclists. We also wanted to provide inner tubes, a track pump, locks and a puncture repair kit specifically for cyclists – though we hope people don’t need them! We have been pleased to have had visits from cyclists from all over Essex and beyond, and this award recognises the hard work we’ve put into our Tearoom so thank you.”

Peter Skelton of Cycles UK added: “Whether riding with a local cycling club, or with friends, which café you are going to stop at often determines the route. We wanted to find the cafes that local cyclist love and help others to find them .”
