Women's only charity ride has backing of Specialized

Davina McCall fronting Action Medical Research charity ride

Big Brother-famed television presenter, Davina McCall, is fronting an Action Medical Research charity ride exclusively for women.

The children’s charity has organised what it calls the Diva100, which will set off from Cowdray Park in Midhurst, Sussex, on Sunday May 8th.

Supported by Specialized, the event will offer a choice of two stunning countryside routes – the 100km challenge, or a shorter 50km course.

Currently presenting the new series of Got to Dance on SKY1 and The Biggest Loser on ITV1, Davina took up cycling after doing Sports Relief’s John O’Groats to Land’s End ride last year. She now hopes the ‘DIVA100’ will inspire more women to get in the saddle.

McCall said: “I’ve become a cycling bore since then, but I love it with a passion. It’s an affordable, sociable way to keep fit and doesn’t have to be competitive. I’ve been involved with Action Medical Research since I was a child, but this is my first cycling event for the charity. I hope lots of ladies saddle up and join me for this new fundraiser."

Research currently being supported by AMR includes work around meningitis, epilepsy, cerebral palsy and premature birth, as well as some very rare and distressing conditions that severely affect children.

The event is fully supported on the day with plenty of rest stops and a fully-serviced lunch. Staff riders, first aiders and massage therapists will also be on hand.

Entry costs £28 and you will also need to raise a minimum of £50 in sponsorship. Places are limited and this event is expected to be popular. Sign up is available here.
