Growth over past five years has finally beat US site

Euro PinkBike traffic now trumps US readership

European traffic to Pinkbike now outstrips viewing figures from North America, according to the mountain bike content publisher.

CEO and co-founder Karl Burkat told BikeBiz: "Five years ago traffic from Europe represented a small fraction of users on Pinkbike, now it is the largest segment just eclipsing North America recently. We foresee more and more riders on the site from Europe which is why we’ve been hiring more staff there and creating more region specific content.

"Plans are to increase our already prominent presence in Europe. We’ve got multiple photographers covering world cup events (DH and XC), we are the official media partners for the Enduro World Series this year and building relationships with brands for editorial is a big focus. A big project that’s been in the works for the last few years is Trailforks and it will be the largest database for official trail networks in the world, allowing users to donate to trail funds without anyone taking a single penny.

"Homepage stories get an incredible amount of views and make a real difference to brands – as well as regional distributors. The community on the site is second to none and at present we have 95 per cent advertiser retention on companies that work with us – we must be doing something right!"

In the past year Pinkbike has appointed Paul Haysom to run the European Advertising, Paul Aston (former world cup and EWS racer) has joined as a Euro based tech editor and the publisher is also looking at increasing the number of full time staff in Europe.

BikeBiz has a further detailed round up of many other consumer-facing print and digital cycling titles in the March magazine, which due to mail this week.
