It began in Dublin, with local cyclist Vinnie Quinn posting a series of pictures of cars and delivery trucks willfully blocking cycle lanes, but the #Freethecyclelanes hashtag is now spreading on social media.

We're currently half way through Bike Week, but if you're a regular cycle lane user you'd be hard pressed to tell by some of the examples posted so far, including a quite unbelievable gaffe by Coca Cola, the sponsor of the Belfast Bikes scheme:

To share your experience of a blocked cycle lane, Dublin Cycling suggests Twitter users tweet a picture to @dublincycling using the hashtag #freethecyclelanes, including the location. The campaign is particularly interested in shots from mandatory and bordered cycle lanes. The campaign is also active on the Dublin Cycling Facebook page.

There is now a microsite dedicated to the hashtag, providing a live feed of submissions.
