Frog Bikes, which was formed in 2015 by cycling enthusiasts Jerry and Shelley Lawson, recently won both a Queen’s Award and a Red Dot Award for its range of children’s bikes.
Shelley Lawson said: “To win a Queen’s Award is absolutely fantastic for a business of our size. We are so proud of what our team has achieved in such a short time, introducing a new brand into a mature market, and it’s exciting to be recognised for our successes.
"We export an increasing number of bicycles each year and are determined to continue our export growth. We have seen a surge in demand in North American markets and throughout Europe in recent months.”
“We’re very pleased to assemble our bikes in Wales using a skilled local workforce, and many of our customers around the world value the fact that we are a British brand which builds bikes locally. We are also grateful for the support we’ve received from the Welsh Government in getting us set up in Pontypool and helping us grow so rapidly,” she concluded.
Frog is also celebrating winning a Red Dot design award for the newest additions to its range, the MTB 69 Mountain Bike. Jerry Lawson said: “We put scientific research at the forefront of our bike designs, to ensure they are built optimally for smaller riders. We are delighted to combine cutting-edge research from Brunel University with British design and manufacturing, to create jobs in the UK and export our bikes globally."
Now in its 52nd year, the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise enable winning brands to use the esteemed Queen’s Awards emblem for the next five years. Frog Bikes will celebrate its award at a royal reception for Queen’s Awards winners in the summer.
The brand employs 50 people in the UK and supplies a range of balance, hybrid, MTB, road and track bikes, created from super-lightweight aluminium to children’s specifications.
