For personal bike theft and potentially for high value show pieces, Spybike feels that is has struck a solution to recovering pinched bikes.
Spybike is a covert tracking device that is hidden inside your bicycle steerer tube. The device is disguised to look like a normal headset cap to avoid suspicion. If someone steals your bike, you can use SpyBike to track their movements online and on your mobile – all that’s needed is a pay-as-you-go SIM card from your country.
Supplied with its own installation key, it can be installed at home for anyone buying in store. From then on, when a customer locks their bike up, they can activate the tracker with the arming keyring. Should the bicycle then detect movement, it will send you an SMS to alert you. It will then automatically start uploading its position.
Harley Clark of Spybike told BikeBiz: “We currently have the Spybike on sale and are looking for bicycle retailers to stock and install it. We plan to release Spylamp2, (smaller more watertight version) as well as other seat and seatpost versions too.”
