ofo increases bike numbers in Hackney

ofo is increasing the number of ofo bikes in Hackney following its recent launch in the borough.

After an initial 200 bikes were released on the streets of London, ofo is now increasing bike numbers with demand and will have up to 750 deployed on the streets over the coming month.

The news comes after successful launches in Cambridge and Oxford for the brand, who is working closely with Hackney Council to ensure its service integrates with existing cycling infrastructure in the borough whilst upholding its ‘UK Charter’ that details safety specifications, community principles, responsible business practices and general service guidance.

ofo’s UK operations director Joseph Seal-Driver commented: “As we celebrate our roll out in the capital, we’re excited to announce on World Car Free Day that we are upping our presence in Hackney to meet the increasing demand for ofo bikes in the borough.

“With the highest cycling rate in the capital, Hackney is leading the way on sustainable transport. Yet, London as a whole continues to be blighted by congestion and pollution problems. We need innovative solutions to meet these problems that go beyond the reach of Santander bikes.

“That is why we hope that success in Hackney can be reproduced across the city. Our partnership with Hackney Council serves as an example for other boroughs and cities to follow suit and take positive steps toward re-shaping how we travel in cities.”

ofo raised over £541 million in Series E financing round in July this year. With more than 25 million transactions daily, ofo connects over ten million bikes to riders in more than 170 cities across the globe. In total, more than four billion rides have been provided to over 200 million users globally. ofo is currently ramping up operations in nine countries, including China, Singapore, UK, US, Khazakstan, Malaysia, Thailand, Austria and Japan.
