Organisation looking for talented independent retail managers

Ten free Retail Scholarships up for grabs from ActSmart

Free scholarships at the Oxford Summer School – worth £1,599 – are being offered to talented independent retail managers.

ActSmart, Skillsmart Retail and Retail Trust have joined forces to offer Silver, Gold and Platinum subscribers the unique opportunity.

Independent retail managers with at least five years experience and currently working in SMEs with less than 1,000 employees are eligible to apply for the acclaimed Scholarships.

Taking place at Keble College, Oxford, from August 21st to 27th 2010, the Oxford Summer School is a unique management training programme.

The intensive course combines tutorials, group work and presentations from senior execs in the retail trade, this year including: chief exec of Harvey Nichols Joseph Wan, Shop Direct group chief exec Mark Newton-Jones, and director of multi-channel retail at Marks and Sparks Susan Aubrey-Cound.

Ten free spaces are available, helping attendees develop the skills of managing (people, money, marketing, merchandise and retail space). The course also affords the chance to work with some of the best retailers in the UK. Attendees benefit from £1,500 of top quality management development, with accommodation and meals all included.

Independent retailer Louise Pallas won a place at the Summer School last year. She said: "The opportunity to experience meeting the best in the business and learning from them is something I will never forget and I am grateful I was given the opportunity."

Terry Bowles, ex chief exec of Madison said: "Oxford Summer School was the making of me."
