Kent's multi-sport Cyclopark due for completion in May next year

Operator sought for huge new cycle facility

Kent County Council is seeking a long-term operational partner for the multi-sports park Cyclopark.

The unique facility is intended as a world-class destination in the South East, with completion due in May 2012.

Kent Count Council has spent over £7 million on the project, which is projected to attract 100,000 cyclists, event visitors and local users. Facilities include an international standard BMX track, 3km of cycle track, 6km of technical MTB routes, a pump track, a skate bowl, a 1,200 sq m pavilion, retail facilities and more set over 20 hectares of landscaped parkland.

KCC is seeking an operator that is ‘the very best’ in leisure and sports management, either a registered charity or an Industrial and Provident Society with an HMRC charity tax ref number.

A Cyclopark spokesperson said: “KCC and its partners having created Cyclopark will support the operator and funds have been made available for revenue support and ongoing maintenance. This support will ensure the successful operator can focus on delivering the high quality community sports programme KCC and its partners want.”

The initial contract period is for ten years, with another ten available subject to performance.
