Bicycle producers claim Canada will be flooded with cheap Chinese bikes

UPDATED: On 2nd September BikeBiz.com reported that the longstanding anti-dumping duties against Chinese bikes had been lifted by the Canada Border Services Agency. Now the Canadian Bicycle Manufacturers Association - which represents Raleigh Canada and the Procycle Groupe, which owns high-end brands such as Rocky Mountain and Balfa and low-end brand CCM - is claiming bike industry jobs will be lost.

Tour of Britain to be longer in 2005

Next year's race could be an eight or nine day event, and would visit Scotland. The Auld Enemy was avoided this year not because of ancient antipathies but because another promoter had organised a Tour of Scotland and the two events could not go head to head.

Childen’s bikes go retro, camo and police-fixated

As mentioned before on BikeBiz.com, Raleigh has resurrected the Tomahawk, Son of the Chopper. There's also a Daughter of the Chopper too. Both were seen for the first time in the flesh today at the trade-only National Cycle and Leisure Show in Harrogate. Raleigh has beefed up its whole kids' range, and Skedaddle from Cycle Citi has a neat little police motorcycle-style child's bicycle.

Children’s bikes grow up

Many of the exhibitors at the trade-only National Cycle and Leisure Show series of roadshows are displaying top notch kid's bikes. Raleigh, Ideal, Giant and others have 24-inch wheel bikes with aluminium frames, making them lighter than the ten tonne steel frames children are normally palmed off with. Ideal also has a fully-equipped children's bike – CTC-types will be pleased – and Giant has a 24-inch T-mobile team bike that many 10-year olds will drool over...
