Park and Diamond launches collapsible bike helmet

Park and Diamond has launched a collapsible bike helmet with an outer skin that looks like a baseball cap.

The helmet collapses down to the size of a large bike water bottle for easy storage in a backpack, messenger bag or large handbag.

David Hall, Park and Diamond co-founder, said: “My sister was the victim of a hit-and-run accident while cycling through the intersection of Park and Diamond near Temple University. She wasn’t wearing her helmet.

“Rachel, who is healthy now, spent four months in a coma, and we named our company after that intersection.

“Now my co-founder Jordan and I have used our engineering backgrounds to design a bike helmet that everyone will want to wear.

“The Park and Diamond Helmet provides the highest level of protection and comfort, plus it’s portable enough to be carried in your backpack or handbag.”

The outer and inner skins of the helmet can be removed, hand-washed and swapped out for a different skin.

Between the inner and outer skins is Park and Diamond’s proprietary shell, which collapses to the size of a large water bottle.

The company’s first helmet is the result of nearly three years of research and development, which found that there are three overwhelming reasons why people don’t wear helmets: they are uncomfortable, unattractive and inconvenient to carry.

Jordan Klein, co-founder of Park and Diamond, said: “You wouldn’t wear a seatbelt if it took up your entire backpack and you had to carry it everywhere.

“The same is true with cycling helmets. This becomes extremely important when looking at bike and kick Scooter share programs where 92 per cent of riders are not wearing helmets.”
