Michael Spillane, formerly with Tommy Hilfiger U.S., has been named the president and CEO of Malden Mills Industries, Inc.

Polartec maker gets a new CEO

Spillane was the president for children’s apparel & men’s underwear and loungewear at Tommy Hilfiger U.S.A, from 2002 to 2004.

"Malden Mills built its global business reputation on product innovation, quality fabrics and a leadership position in the outdoor apparel industry," said Spillane.

"As CEO, I look forward to working with our customers, vendors and employees to continue that tradition, making Malden Mills stronger than ever."

Richard McCaffery, board chairman of the Malden Mills’ management selection committeesaid:

"Malden has been positioning itself for growth on several fronts and Michael has the right skills and experience, to lead the company to the next level. We conducted an exhaustive search over the last nine months and Michael was a clear standout. His ability to grow revenue and create value makes him an ideal leader for Malden Mills."

Malden Mills Industries, Inc. was established in 1906 and is based in Lawrence, Massachewsetts. In the early 1980s, Malden Mills boffins developed the first polyster fleece fabrics for the outdoor trade. A variety of fleece sub-brands was later grouped under the Polartec name and there are now 180 different styles of Polartec, including next-to-the-skin fabrics suitable for sublimatically-printed cycle jerseys.
