PressCamp: Enve designer gives aero-wheel masterclass

Enve now makes handlebars and other components but is best known for its composite wheels.

The Utah-based company believes its aero bicycle wheels are the fastest in the world.

Editors at PressCamp in Deer Valley, near Salt Lake City, Utah, were treated to an aero-wheel masterclass by aerodynamist Simon Smart of Oxfordshire. Smart comes from a Formula One background, having last worked for the all-conquering Red Bull team. Now with his own consultancy business (he has worked on aero bikes, for the likes of Scott and other brands), Smart’s expertise in aerodynamics was hired in by composites specialist Enve.

The company’s new line of aero wheels were rolled out at PressCamp, and can be seen in this seven-minute video, in which Smart talks about side winds and other aero-wheel issues. NOTE: at one point in the video the subject of aero tyres came up. Trek UK has pointed out that Bontrager does such a tyre.
