Live on Radio 4 today the BikeBiz editor told the BBC to "get its act into gear" over secure cycle parking

BikeBiz editor chides BBC for lack of cycle parking stands

Carlton Reid, editor of BikeBiz, was a guest on Radio 4’s consumer programme You and Yours this lunchtime.

He was wheeled on to talk about this ‘how to thwart bike thieves’ article following the theft of Tory leader David Cameron’s bike last week.

Stefan George from lock-testing outfit Sold Secure was appalled by the number of ‘how to’ bike stealing videos on YouTube but Reid said being aware of the techniques used by thieves would make it more likely consumers could protect their bicycles.

The Radio 4 presenter asked whether organisations and companies ought to provide more cycle parking stands.

Reid said yes, but pointed out that he had been unable to lock his bicycle to such a stand outside BBC Newcastle.

"The BBC should get its act into gear," said Reid.

The programme can be ‘listened to again’ here.
