Campagnolo 80th anniversary collection revealed

Campagnolo has marked its 80th anniversary in the bicycle business with the launch of a limited edition groupset celebrating its innovations past and present in a Super Record revamp.

Some numbers to begin with. It’s an 11-speed mechanical version, weighing in at what Campagnolo say is their lightest to tip the scales to date – just 1,862 grams. The first Super Record groupset came to market back in 1973, launched a decade on from the Record groupset.

Founded in Vicenza by Tullio Campagnolo, the firm began producing groupsets in 1933 and in the time since has invented the first quick release axle, among other innovations.

Each of the newly released groupsets will carry a unique serial number and if you’re interested, keep an eye on Campagnolo’s microsite, which will launch in a week’s time.

There’s two sets of matching wheels too. Depending on the preference/budget, a full carbon 50mm deep section pair weighing 1,310 grams will satisfy the weight concious, while an aluminium/carbon 50mm pair will tip the scales at 1,590 grams.

Low friction cup and cone Cult bearings, supposedly nine times smoother than standard bearings are used. The G3 spoke pattern also features, laced to oversized flanges for maximum stiffness.

The products, according to I-ride’s Tom Marchement: "Will land from the end of March and will last until the 31st of July 2013."
