Publisher believes "surge in road cycling's popularity" could be key

Cycling Plus overtakes MBUK as Future’s highest circulating title

Cycling Plus has leapfrogged Mountain Biking UK in what Future Publishing’s group publisher for sports titles, Katherine Raderecht, says is an "indication that the surge of interest in road cycling is now converting into more sold copies and subscriptions to road cycling title Cycling Plus."

Having managed 11 solid years of circulation growth, Cycling Plus now distributes and average of 44,683 copies per issue, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations. For the first time, the title has topped flagship mountain biking title MBUK’s key figure, which posted a decline this year, falling from an average per issue of 41,772 to 38,482.

Raderecht told BikeBiz: "In the coming months the cycling portfolio is undergoing a redesign in response to on going research we’ve been doing to assess our readership’s needs. We’ve a new senior art designer on board who’s previously worked with some big name consumer titles and has a wealth of experience under his belt."

It was also revealed to BikeBiz that, though BikeRadar Live has been cancelled going forwards, Future are investigating "a series of smaller scale cycling events, aiming to meet strong demand for this type of event from the industry and cycling enthusiasts."

14 new iPad apps are now live, upping the ante of the publisher’s aggressive move into digital formats – though ProCycling is currently the only bicycle title to receive the tech treatment.

Mike Goldsmith, Editor in Chief of Future’s iPad and Tablet Editions added: "The iPad is the perfect showcase for Future’s unique archive of specialist content. The display quality makes our photography and video look amazing, the App Store enables us to reach out to new global audiences, the online capability allows us to interact further with the many communities we’ve built over 25 years."

An in depth look at a variety of print and online publishers businesses, including more from Future’s titles, will be carried in the March issue of BikeBiz.
