To further bolster its Academy range, the Dawes Cycles team has expanded the line-up to include mountain bike models boasting "serious kit not often found on junior bikes".
Now in stock at the Birmingham HQ, the little MTB machines come in 20”, 24” and 26” wheel sizes. Based on a similar triple butted alloy frame to existing models, all sizes have air suspension forks, front and rear disc brakes, Alex rims and 8 or 9 speed Rapidfire gearing.
Dawes said that the Air forks are the crown jewels on these bikes: "Not only does an air fork decrease weight, which is a main priority on Academy’s development criteria, but also, they offer unparallel adjustment. This comes in very handy, particularly for kids who don’t weigh so much and need a very soft fork."
The firm added: “We’ve been very happy with the uptake of our new Academy bikes. As a recent article on BikeBiz stated; premium kid’s bikes are in hot demand. Parents are slowly becoming more and more educated to the rewards of spending that little bit extra on their child’s bike and we’re continuing to push that education into each category of cycling. We now have a balance bike, hybrids, road bikes, mountain bikes and shortly, an impressive CX model…so something for almost everyone. The MTB models have been particularly fun to work on, and have made more than just myself jealous of any child that gets one!”
NEW RANGE: LT Series
As well as development in the Academy range, Dawes Cycles has also launched another range of lightweight kid’s bikes called the ‘LT Series’.
Each model is based on the long-standing popular Dawes ‘Bullet’ and ‘Paris’ junior bikes. Offering 20”, 24” and 26” wheel sizes, each model has received components developed for the Academy range as well as improved gearing and some weight shedding upgrades. Set at a price point below the premium Academy offering, this addition to the Dawes stable is being pitched as further proof of the brand’s commitment to creating "the UK’s most comprehensive ranges of junior bikes".
