Carbon fibre engineers famed for formula one and motorcycle carbon wheels now seeking independent bicycle dealers

Dymag makes inroads in carbon cycling wheels

You may have heard the Dymag name before, most likely for its heritage in carbon fibre motorcycle and Formula 1 wheels and, as many labels have done before, they’ll be bringing their expertise to the cycling world.

Already stocked by independent retailers in the UK, the new range of hand built wheels comprises of road carbon fibre rims ready to buy off the shelf, or bespoke packages tailored to the rider’s requirements.

The Dymag rims can be purchased as a stand-alone product from £270 for sizes 24mm – tubular, and 38mm, 44mm, 50mm and 60mm, available in a tubular or clincher. The 88mm rim is priced at £337.50 (tubular or clincher).

The spoke counts available for all the rim sizes are 20, 24 and 28 spoke.

Cyclists looking for a complete wheel set can purchase as a package. All wheel sizes have an option of Hope RS – Mono hubs and Sapim Double Butted “Super Spokes”, priced at £1,200, or DT Swiss 240 hubs and Sapim Aero Bladed “CX-Ray” Spokes available at £1,600.

Dymag is also working with Prestige Cycles at Southampton University to carry out a programme of wind tunnel testing as part of its research and development programme.

New cycle team
For the 2014 season, Dymag will be partnering with Ian Rees who has set up a team of riders with one uniting factor – they all have Type 1 diabetes or have experience of diabetes. The team will be re-named Dymag T1 D and will ride on Dymag wheels at all the major UK elite events.

Ian has been training on the Dymag wheels for several months and has given valuable feedback to the designers. He said: “The wheels are incredibly responsive and really bullet proof in that they can withstand significant impact without collapsing into the brake blocks which has happened with other wheels I’ve ridden on. The weight and performance is comparable to wheels that are a lot more expensive, so we are really excited to be working with Dymag.”

He added: “I am aspiring to have an all diabetic team by 2015 to compete in elite and pro level races. At present we have a third of the team being diabetic and the rest all know what it’s like to ride with diabetes and how to keep blood sugar’s ready to race. I aim to raise awareness with diabetes sufferers of the positive benefits that sport and keeping active brings.”
