Velocite has revealed its first foray into wheelsets with a tubeless carbon clincher wheelset, due in stock this later month.
Some numbers first, the pair will cost £1,499 and weigh in at 1,630 grams minus the tubeless kit. The rim profile is 50mm deep and 23mm wide, resulting in a ‘symmetrical airfoil shape’ when the tyre is installed .
The RT50 rims are finished in 3k carbon fibre in order to obtain a smoother finish and to save weight.
The resin system used in the wheel’s construction is what is commonly referred to as “high Tg” or high glass transition temperature. In the case of thermoset resins this measurement denotes the temperature at which the resin starts degrading and failing. As established during Velocite’s machine testing the Tg for the RT50 wheelset is 192.8 degrees, so very little chance of failure unless you plan on a cycling trip Venus.
The RT50 rims are clear coated in a matte finish and the decals used and shown in the pictures are both removable and reflective.
