Canadian electric bike manufacturer OHM has worked with SRAM and Gates Carbon Drive for its new Urban XU450 E2 e-bike.
Debuting at Taipei Cycle Show last month, the city bike uses the new SRAM E-Matic automatic shifting system, which automatically shifts to add the correct level of pedalling assistance, removing the need for shifters and an LCD screen on the handlebar. It also does away with a chain in favour of the clean, quiet, low-maintenance Gates Carbon Drive belt.
The step-through frame-sporting bike is aimed at the North American market, but will be available worldwide, BikeBiz was told by OHM.
Designed as a replacement for a car for commuting and errands, the bike is also being pitched as an ideal rental bike. Coming in four sizes it uses an Advance series hydroformed frame for lightness, strength and rigidity.
“We designed this new model to make riding an e-bike even easier and more convenient,” said CEO of OHM Michael DeVisser. “Just get on the bike and start pedalling. The SRAM E-Matic does the rest. The Gates belt drive is another huge convenience because it never needs to be lubricated and won’t get grease on your hands or clothes.”
OHM is based in Vancouver.
