British cycling icon and celebrated Olympian Joanna Rowsell last week returned to the site of her 2012 Olympic victory to announce her collaboration with kids bike brand Frog.

In front of some of East London’s prospective future cyclists, the event kicked off with a speech from Rowsell about her victories and the future of British cycling. Together with a representative from Frog bikes, they spoke about the inspiration behind the collaboration, and Rowsell’s goal of encouraging a younger generation to take up cycling.

The big news of the day was the announcement that British-based Frog Bikes will bring their factories to the UK, with production now set to take place in Wales. As a screen was whipped away, we got our first glimpse of the new bike series entitled the ‘Union Jack’ range (no doubt playing on the fact that the bikes are officially now ‘Made in Britain’). The nine bikes in the range mount in size from a pedal free balance bike, up to a 26 inch hybrid bike. Featuring striking navy blue frames with bold union jack detailing on the forks and chain stay, the bikes have a distinctly British feel.

Finally, the local children who have gathered to test out the new range were ushered to the awaiting bikes and let loose on a track to put them through their paces. Obviously enjoying herself, Rowsell guided the more timid of the group around the room, perhaps introducing some of these youngsters to a lifelong passion. We hope so.
