Report finds most retailers feel effects of tough economic climate

Recession affects six out of ten retailers, says survey

According to this report on the Retail Bulletin, six out of ten (62 per cent) retailers have seen drops in visits from customers due to difficult trading conditions.

The survey said that regular and new customers have been affected by the footfall drop while store owners have apparently seen a 68 per cent impact on footfall.

The findings, put together by Barclaycard, also noted that three quarters of those surveyed believed that the loyalty schemes of larger retailers gave them an advantage, with four out of five (80 per cent) of sole traders feeling at a disadvantage as they couldn’t offer similar schemes.
