...until the official opening of the Sustrans' National Cycle Network. And just 99 days left to work out how your business can link in to the many events surrounding the NCN launch and the Millennium Festival of Cycling

99 days and counting…

As of today there are just 99 days left until the 5000-mile National Cycle Network opens. It will be officially launched on Wednesday 21st June with events across the UK. The Network will run within 2 miles or a 10 minute cycle ride of 20 million people.

The National Cycle Network is the only project reaching the whole of the UK. By June 2000 the Network will include 5,000 miles of safe, attractive and high quality routes for cyclists and will provide a major new amenity for walkers and wheelchair users. The Network will be extended to 10000 miles by 2005. The National Cycle Network is a partnership project involving over 400 local authorities as well as businesses, landowners, environmental bodies and others.

The opening of the National Cycle Network takes place this June with a week-long celebration called Ride The Net, part of the Millennium Festival of Cycling. As part of that, Sustrans is organising the Longest Ride event on the longest day of the year, Wednesday 21st June 2000, when groups of cyclists and walkers will cover all of the 10 000 miles planned for National Cycle Network by 2005. This is followed by a series of charity events, the Worlds Largest Cyclethon, Thursday 22nd June to Sunday 25th June.
