ACT reduces price for its in-store training day

A full day's retail training, held in situ by ACT's retained training consultant, now costs £650 for ACT members. It was £750 a day last year.

Think £650 a day is still too expensive? IBD Peter Hargroves, of Hargroves Cycles, Southampton, begs to differ. At the ACT's Dealer Development Group meeting late last year he said the two days of training his staff received paid for itself quickly through increased sales straight after the training sessions.

The ACT's In Store training programme was started in 2000. The training day start at 9.30am and ends at about 4pm.

The course includes tips and techniques on 'closing the sale', selling up, merchandising, and maximising workshop profitability.

ACT members pay £650 for full day of on-site training, plus VAT and the travel expenses of the trainer. Non-members pay £750 plus the extras.

At its January roadshows, Dawes announced it was to part-pay for some IBDs to get the on-site training, and Madison also offers training credits via its EPoS company, Stockturn.

Training grants are also available through local Business Links.
