Shop located in Forestry Commission's new visitor facility

Alpine Bikes opens new store at Glentress

Scotland’s Alpine Bikes has opened a new bike shop and hire facility at Glentress Peel.

The store opened its doors on Saturday June 4th at the MTB location, and together with Alpine’s Innerleithen shop, will serve bike customers in the Tweed Valley. The store opening coincided with TweedLove, the week-long festival of bike riding in the cycle-friendly area, which includes hundreds of miles of MTB trails, tracks and roads.

Over 150 bikes are available for hire at the shop, including top end demo models, full sus, hardtail and kids bikes. Cycle brands for sale include Trek, Genesis, Santa Cruz and Orange as well as clothing and accessories from Gore Bike Wear, Endura, Shimano and Bontranger. The shop also includes full repair and servicing facilities from Cytech qualified mechanics.

Alpine Bikes directer Bryan Shedden said: “I am thrilled that Alpine Bikes is running the bike shop and hire facility at Glentress Peel. Through our established shop at Innerleithen we have already enjoyed sponsoring local events such as the Winter Series and fully intend to build on this commitment. The store at Glentress Peel further secures our position as Scotland’s premium bike retailer and hire centre provider. We look forward to working with Forestry Commission Scotland and the other tenants to make Glentress Peel a great success.”

Glentress Peel is a new visitor facility from the Forestry Commission Scotland, based in Tweed Valley Forest Park in Glentress Forest. The facility was built to cope with expanding visitor numbers, currently around 300,000 per year.

Bill Meadows, the Commission’s forest district manager for Dumfries and Scottish Borders, added: "We are really pleased to start working with Alpine Bikes. Their vast experience and knowledge of the market, both nationally and locally, should be a great asset in making Glentress Peel a fantastic success."

Following the acquisition of Off Beat Bikes in Fort William and the summer season lease of the bike shop at Nevis Range, Alpine Bikes operate ten stores in Scotland.
