Average Brit hasn’t been on a bike for 9 years, claims heart charity

The average Brit hasn’t cycled for at least nine years, says a survey from the British Heart Foundation.

Nevertheless, one in eight of those surveyed – the equivalent of 6.3 million people – said they received a bike at Christmas. However, a similar number said they have never learnt how to ride a bike,

A further ten percent of Brits have forgotten how to ride, says the survey of 2,000 people undertaken by the organiser of the London to Brighton Bike Ride.

Elizabeth Tack, event lead for the annual challeneg ride, said: “It’s surprising to learn that whilst there is a clear appetite for cycling in the UK, there is still a vast amount of us who are not getting on our bikes often enough, or even at all."

She added: Cycling is a fantastic way of keeping your heart healthy."
