Eddie Eccleston, the BA's vice president, led the move to resign from COLIBI. He believed it was too heavily biased in favour of manufacturers. Importers and assemblers weren't getting a look in.

The BA remains a member of COLIPED, the European cycle accessories association.

Past BA president Mel Payne, now firmly part of the secretariat at Starley House, said recent overtures to COLIBI were rejected.

"[The BA] had no alternative but to resign from COLIBI with the proviso that if the constitution does change to reflect all our members we would rejoin," said Payne.
