East Lothian independent bike dealer celebrates with its first customer

Belhaven Bikes celebrates 10 years in the bike business

Independent bike shop Belhaven Bikes has celebrated its tenth year in business with the shop’s first ever customer, one Alex Tait, who bought a bike from the shop a decade ago.

Belhaven Bikes’ celebrations coincided with the Tour of Britain coming through the shop’s home district East Lothian for the first time. The celebratory cake was supplied by local Dunbar business 1650 Coffee Shop.

Colin of Belhaven Bikes said: “We’d like to thank everyone for making our 10th birthday so special. We very much appreciate our customers’ support over the years, together with all the kind words, little gifts, friendship, cheerful chat and banter!”

Earlier this year the shop was a finalist in the UK’s Best Small Shop Competition. The store, a keen supporter of the Big Pedal, also gets involved with clubs and charity appeals. One of the latest was Pedal for Scotland and three generations of a local family took part to raise money for Scottish children in poverty. Belhaven Bikes supplied a trailer and it was adapted for the family’s dog Hamish to travel in safety and comfort. It turns out that Hamish is a bit of a celeb having led the Scottish team out at the Commonwealth Games last year.
