Better a day as a lion than a lifetime as a sheep?

Lincoln Allison, founding director of Warwick University's Centre for the Study of Sport in Society, has penned a provocative feature for The Guardian, questioning whether doping is as bad as it's portrayed. And will genetic enhancements - the modification of the haemoglobin gene to improve stamina, for instance - soon make a mockery of doping controls? Cycling is included in the piece, naturally, but is not mauled.
