This good news was carried on this site some months ago but a caveat was added: they were only provisional figures, yet to be confirmed.
Yesterday, the DETR confirmed them.
Statistics Bulletin (00)20 Road Traffic Statistics: 1999 gives the results of the DETR's National Traffic Surveys for 1999 and updates the road traffic figures published last year.
The bulletin says: Pedal cycle traffic rose 6% between 1998 and 1999, compared with an average fall of 4% per year from 1995 to 1998.
The bulletin will shortly be available in PDF format at: http://www.transtat.detr.gov.uk/.../index.htm
Theres tons of other transport stats including the 1 percent rise in car use (a slight slowing down).
