Skinfix, a range of steroid-free skincare products, will arrive in the UK from Canada on Monday. Initially the brand will be stocked by Boots. All Skinfix products are based on an original skin-soothing formula created in about 1850 by pharmacist Thomas Dixon of Yorkshire. His son emigrated to Canada in 1871, and the family recipe for the skincare products moved with him – he opened a pharmacy in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

In 2006 Thomas Dixon’s great-great-great granddaughter Karen created the Skinfix brand.

Skinfix will be available in the UK with three formulas – Skinfix Body Repair Balm, Hand Repair Cream and Daily Lotion, offering customers an alternative to prescriptions or over-the-counter steroids for the treatment of eczema and dry irritated, skin. And, as a video for the brand shows, Skinfix products are also good for weather-proofing the skin of cyclists (although rubbing it in might perhaps be more economical than squirting it willy-nilly down Lycra shorts).

"The brand is perfect for sports and preparing against the outdoors and the winter elements, it’s a real hero product and a must-have for cycling," said Charlotte Brouwer, PR officer for the brand.

Skinfix products also contain natural butters, botanicals and protective emollient oils.
