Merseytravel, Liverpool PCT, Newcastle City Council and Warrington Borough Council have awarded funding to Bikeright!s Freewheeling adult training programme.
So far the Freewheeling course has delivered National Standards cycle training to over 600 people in two years in Manchester.
Now people over the age of 16 who live, work or study in Manchester, Merseyside, Newcastle upon Tyne or Warrington will be eligible for the free training sessions thanks to the new funding.
“Freewheeling in Manchester proved that there was a latent demand for cycle training, especially at a basic level for people who were either returning to cycling or never leant to ride as a child,” commented Liz Clarke BikeRight! MD.
Freewheeling is available on four levels. Level 1’s learn to ride course takes place away from roads, level 2 on quiet roads and 3 on busy roads.
Clarke added: “The level 3 training is often delivered on a one-to-one basis using people’s actual routes to and from work or place of study. We have also seen individuals progress from learning to ride through to level 3.”
