Biomega displays bamboo bike by über-designer

The Biomega Bamboo is designed by Ross Lovegrove and will be displayed in Design Library, Milan
Publish date:

Joining Calfree and its long-established bamboo-framed road bike, the Biomega Bamboo is made from a material that is fast-growing yet stronger than steel.

The latest bike from the urban-cool Danish bike company will be presented at Design Library, Via Savona 11, 20144 Milan from 23rd April.

The bike is designed by Ross Lovegrove, co-founder of Lovegrove Studio of Notting Hill, and was commissioned by Jens Martin Skibsted, founder of Biomega.

When with a natural radiance. The Biomega bike was co-developed with Brazilian bamboo specialist Flavio Deslandes, and is handmade in Denmark. It is equipped with a shaft-drive.

Lovegrove has worked for clients as varied as Apple, Issey Miyake, Herman Miller and Airbus. His personal artwork has been exhibited at MoMA in New York, the Pompidou Centre in Paris and the Design Museum in London.

Skibsted founded Biomega in 1998 with a goal of creating "furniture for locomotion": gallery-quality bikes that "change the way we feel about urban transportation." Skibsted is in the support network of the INDEX award, Ashoka and UNICEF's Design 21 and a W.E.F. Young Global Leader. He is the current design curator for Schloss Solitude and in the jury of the Danish Design Prize.
