Flood-damaged Blazing Saddles of Hebden Bridge will reopen next week with extended opening hours in the run-up to Christmas. The famous Yorkshire store was inundated in the Boxing Day floods and had to open a satellite store in order to keep trading. Subsequently, the business – opened by owner John Ainscough in Barrowford in 1994 and which moved to Hebden Bridge in 2001 – has employed four new members of staff.
Blazing Saddles is one of the finalists for retailer of year in the Bike Biz Awards 2017, and won the award in 2014.
Because of the flooding the store is now unable to secure insurance cover and has, instead, beefed up its own flood defences.
On the store's Facebook page, Ainscough is shown using breeze-blocks to close a door space (his first career was as a brick-layer) and he wrote: "Whilst it might not be a thing of great beauty to some, to us this defence wall is a wonderful thing ... soon be fully operational."
