BMC has opened its $27.5 million (CHF 40m) automated factory this week, reports BRAIN.
Based at the firm’s HQ in Grenchen, Switzerland, the factory took five years to build, for production of BMC’s Impec woven carbon fibre road bike – as used this week in the Tour de France.
The factory capacity is approximately 20,000 frame per year and BMC plans to make about 2,500 Impec frames in the project’s first year.
BMC’s marketing boss said: “Every bike is exactly the same. No human error is possible."
