Gino Tsai, founder of JD Components, said: "[Steve Boehmke’s] experience, contacts and enthusiasm will work well with our goal of becoming the number one supplier of components to the bicycle market over the next few years."
JD Components was founded in 1986 and has three factories, one of them in China.
Boehmke has a long history in the US bike industry. He has had roles with Shimano, RockShox, Giant and others. He created the company Chunky Flyrite Enterprises in 2000 to become an independent consultant specializing in PR, marketing, and business development.
One of his clients is Giant Bicycles USA, but he’s planning for his new role with JD to be more than just about PR:
"I’ve had several product ideas for a few years now that I feel can really help expand the bike market. This relationship will allow me to produce those ideas, while promoting the already awesome components that JD makes," said Boehmke.
Some of Boehmke’s product ideas revolve around making the bicycle easier to use for more people, more often.
"So many people would ride their bike if they could really use it. I’m hoping to expand the usability of the bicycle so that people leave their car in the driveway when they make short jaunts to work or to the neighborhood store.
"It may sound trite, but I really hope to change the world through better bike component design."
JD Components will be exhibiting at this year’s Taipei International Bicycle Show, to be held from March 29th to April 2nd at the Taipei Convention Center.
