This makes the ACT-backed scheme bigger than the Halfords bike-buying, tax-incentive scheme. Booost was formerly open only to dealers stocking Giant, Trek and Specialized bikes. In April the scheme was opened up to all brands.

Booost now has 500 IBDs on its boooks

Booost now allows employees to purchase many brands of bike from any registered IBD participant. The Association of Cycle Traders has been keen to gain support from all major bike brands to enable greater participation amongst independent retailers, ensuring that Booost has a strong network of IBDs who can offer the scheme to all employers nationally.

Brands now part of the scheme include Raleigh, Saracen, Brompton, Dahon, Marin, Schwinn, Muddy Fox and Powabyke.

Nigel Roberts, General Manager of Trek UK said: "Trek continues to recognise Booost as a genuine long term opportunity to promote increased cycle usage amongst adults. It’s vital our dealers are involved to help establish a nationwide network capable of meeting the demand and benefiting from the increased business which Booost schemes can deliver."

Chris Morris from Booost said: “Booost has worked very closely with government agencies and ACT in bringing the scheme to market. We realise the huge potential in small businesses to develop cycling to work as an established culture and are in no doubt that a strong IBD network will not only get more employees onto bikes, but will also keep them there in the longer term”.

A statement from Booost said that 20 000 employees have participated in the company’s schemes, with a further 50 000 "committed to Booost whilst businesses representing over 250 000 employees are currently in the pipeline to implement a scheme in the future."

Booost has now formally launched ‘Booost In A Box’, a scheme which enables companies of any size to use the Booost bike purchase scheme.
