Brit disc brake makers clean up at first British Bike Awards

Hope's Minis and its website won awards at last night's British Bike Awards, hosted by Haymarket at The Bike Show in Birmingham. Disc brake and cable maker Clarks won the best manufacturer award. Madison walked off with 'best distributor'. Evans Cycles beat off competition from Bikehut, Alpine Bikes and Edinburgh Bicycle to win the best British bike shop of the year gong(which was nice for MD Mike Rice who attended the show instead of going on a long-planned weekend to the Cotswolds with his wife and sans children).

The British Bicycle Awards were judged by folk from The Bike Show, MBUK, What Mountain Bike, Cycling Plus, British Cycling, BicycleBusiness and RideBMX Magazine.

British Cycling CEO Peter King welcomed the awards:

"Cycle sport is all about achievement and awards, but these awards have brought something different to the British cycling scene."

Gavin Brown, MD of Haymarket Exhibitions, said:

"We were delighted to host the BBA’s alongside The Bike Show, the perfect backdrop for the industry to recognise the astounding achievements over the past year.”

BBC's cyclesport commentator Hugh Porter MBE was compare at the awards. At the end of the evening he got a surprise 'lifetime achievement award' from British Cycling.
