The Sport Relief Million Pound Bike Ride has been giving the backing of British Cycling, with the organisation providing insurance for the high profile event.
British Cycling has also encouraged its 30,000 strong membership to donate to the worthy cause.
David Walliams, Jimmy Carr, Fearne Cotton, Miranda Hart, Patrick Kielty, Davina McCall and Russell Howard set off on the ride yesterday, cycling from John O’Groats to Lands End.
Jonny Clay, sport and membership director at British Cycling, said: “The Sport Relief Million Pound Bike Ride is not only raising funds for a worthwhile cause, it has inspired some of this country’s best known celebrities to cycle and we believe this will inspire others to follow suit.
“We have covered the cost of the insurance for the event to show our support for this great initiative and we are also encouraging British Cycling members and staff, most of whom, as regular cyclists will appreciate the physical challenge faced by the seven riders, to donate generously to the cause.”

According to the site, David Walliams took a tumble while tackling the notorious Kirkstone Pass – a 1,000 ft climb through the Lake District.
